AOE2 AGE TIMINGSAoE2 Castle Age timing only makes sense with context.
Castle Age is one of the most useful checkpoints in an Age of Empires II replay because it connects economy, strategy and access to stronger options. But an earlier timestamp is not automatically better. The useful question is what the player invested before clicking, what the opponent was doing and whether the new age produced an actual advantage.

01Read the strategy before the timestamp
A player who invests in scouts, archers, towers or defensive units during Feudal Age can reach Castle Age later by design. A fast-castle player may click earlier because fewer resources went into Feudal military. Compare the age-up with the plan that produced it instead of treating one minute as a universal deadline.
02Check the economy behind the click
An early Castle Age is only useful if the economy can support what comes next. Look for whether the player can add the intended military production, technologies or Town Centers after advancing. Reaching the age quickly and then waiting for resources can erase much of the apparent timing advantage.
03Measure what Castle Age actually unlocked
